As Alderman of the 12th Ward I am pleased to inform you of the many services my office, in conjunction with the City of Chicago, are providing to Senior Citizens and People with Disabilities. I encourage you to take full advantage of these services. Should you be in need of these services feel free to contact Maria Chavez, Senior Liaison.

  • Disabled Placard: Allows people with Disabilities to park on disabled areas.
  • Senior Medical ID: Free medical identification card to all Chicago residents 60 years or older.
  • Emergency Identification Bracelet: Offer by the Chicago Police Department.
  • Senior Citizen Sewer Charge Exemption: Is a water-sewer reduction program for seniors 60 years or older who live in their own home.
  • Senior Homestead Exemption: Reduces the equalized assessed valuation of senior citizen’s home by $3,000 to eligible residents.
  • Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Exemption: Allows qualified seniors citizens with a total household income of $45,000 or less to apply for a freeze on equalized assessed value.
  • Illinois Home Energy Assistance Program (L.H.E.A.P.): Helps income eligible house holds pay their home energy bills.
  • Illinois Home Energy, Low-Income Energy Program: Provides free weatherization services for eligible households.
  • Senior Save Program: A new program to help Chicago residents age 60 and over learn about valuable merchant discounts.
  • Circuit Breaker/Pharmaceutical Assistance Program: Is an optional benefit program that helps pay for approved prescriptions medications used for treatment.
